Shadows of Sylvaheim
What if your greatest adventure was a journey back to the teenager still living
inside you—the part Carl Jung called the adolescent shadow?
Sixteen-year-old Jack is struggling with chronic pain, self-doubt and a family falling
apart. Then a violent storm sweeps him and his younger sister, Emily, into
Sylvaheim. Here, ancient forests hide secrets, ravens carry messages and danger
waits around every corner.
As Jack and Emily face powerful enemies, unlikely allies and unexpected
challenges, they discover that their greatest battle is not only with the darkness
around them. They must also face the fears, hurts and hidden parts they carry within.
Blending mythic fantasy with psychological insight, Shadows of Sylvaheim explores
struggles that can begin during adolescence and continue into adult life. These
include bullying, family conflict, betrayal, addiction, identity and the search for
belonging.
Created as part of Dr Toula Gordillo’s Shadow Self Program, the book also offers
adults a way to explore their own adolescent shadow. Readers can pause to notice
which characters, events and emotions affect them most, then use journalling and
self-reflection to explore why.
By exploring the past through the safe distance of story and symbolism, listeners can
develop greater self-understanding, recognise old patterns and discover new
possibilities for healing and personal growth.
