JUNG'S TECHNIQUE

Carl Jung’s “THE SHADOW”

Modern psychology owes a great debt to the founder of analytical psychology, Dr Carl Jung. His work, particularly the study of the unconscious, ego development and the shadow self helped form the foundation of Dr Toula’s evidence-based Story Image Therapy (SIT®) and SIT Shadow Work™ method.

Jung’s work was the subject of Dr Toula’s doctoral study. She became a qualified Jungian psychotherapist (in conjunction with her clinical psychology studies), and she formed her own research model, known today as Jungian action research. It involves a combination of Science, Spirit and Story in which Dr Toula combines modern science with ancient spiritual and philosophical practice, and our innate desire for storytelling and imagery.

Jung’s teachings, as well as those of the ancient natural law philosophers, forms the foundation of Dr Toula’s Story Image Therapy (SIT®) Tools. These include her books, audiobooks, poster images, videos, handouts and other SIT training materials.

Dr Carl Jung: Influential figure in SIT and Dr Toula's 'Universal Psychology'
Jung understood the power of ‘fantastic’ symbolic stories and images for healing and introspection. This is now supported by modern scientific research.

Jung researched numerous subjects in detail. These included psychology, philosophy, anthropology, history, religion and spirituality. Starting with what what Dr Toula calls his own 1st person “Jungian action research”, he also studied various levels of consciousness through analysing his own dreams. He widely researched various cultures through the ages in an attempt to understand not just the individual, but the broader context in which we live. In so doing, he lent scientific support to a previously undervalued or misunderstood part of humanity…

The desire to share symbolic stories and images captures our minds and hearts. It is what makes us human, and it is universal! This ‘universal psychology’ approach is embedded in all of Dr Toula’s SIT tools, including:

  • Shadows of Sylvaheim (Dr Toula’s doctoral novel: a Young Adult mythic fantasy novel now used for shadow recognition during SIT Shadow Work™)
  • The Rise of Jung in Me (Dr Toula’s journal of her own shadow recognition, embrace and integration to heal her adolescent ‘wounds’ that caused her pain as an adult. The book also includes six case studies of how she used SIT Shadow Work™ to heal six other young people)
  • Frog and Scorpion in the Boardroom (a corporate fairytale used in SIT Shadow Work™ to help identify unconscious patterns and behaviours in the workplace or other high stress/high conflict situations)
  • and much more…
